Edinburgh has been voted the best place to live in the UK by Channel 4’s flagship property show ‘Location, Location, Location’ beating Winchester, Bath and South Cambridgeshire to the top spot. The programme rates cities based on six criteria: crime, education, environment, lifestyle, health and employment levels. It particularly focused on the Old and New Town as well as Edinburgh’s rich cultural life, the Edinburgh Festival and low unemployment. Other contributing factors including low crime rates, education, public transport, high concentrations of museums and galleries, great architecture and large numbers of people in highly paid professional occupations lead to its status as the UK’s number one. According to the show’s research, the average house price in Edinburgh is around £205,000 that’s still £5000 below the UK average and half the price of London.
The only other Scottish entry on the list was East Dumbartonshire, which came in at number 11 on the best list, while Middlesbrough came in as the worst place to live in the UK.
