Over the past few years The City of Edinburgh Council has been involved in a number of initiatives aimed at improving the private rented sector in the city. One of the best examples of this is Edinburgh Landlord Accreditation (ELA) which, while providing a benchmark for landlords by recognising good practice, also encourages necessary improvements within the sector.
ELA was developed due to The Scottish Executive and Communities Scotland drive to promote accreditation schemes throughout the country. It is hoped that by being accredited, potential tenants will be able to identify landlords and agents that take a responsible approach to letting and meet the Code of Standards.
Accredited agents and Landlords also have the added bonus of advertising their portfolio on the ELA website. This will be a huge advantage when marketing properties and, as the scheme become more widely publisised, may become just as popular as the existing letting websites tenants use at present.
